I’ve actually prepared a beautiful Highlighted version of this mock so i Know we went through through these both Of them Yeah i actually tried like three Highlight plugins before i could find One that actually made sense Um so Basically Focus on people first content this the Helpful content update ace to uh reward Content where visitors feel like they’ve Had a satisfying experience where Content that doesn’t mediate their Expectations more performance that’s What google say would say about pretty Much any update at this point so i don’t Think that’s very useful um yeah the First the first thing i get from that Though when they say that is like are we Talking user metrics here like user Engagement um time on site people Clicking yeah Yeah yeah i wouldn’t be surprised right Because You know you know that last year tick Tock over to google as The most visited Web property on the internet right for The first time in like a decade or Something and and that is a platform That is Fully driven by user experience user Metric like how much you watch the
Videos how quickly you swipe Et cetera all of that they actually Analyze all of that to serve you better Content And google being demoted like that by a Platform that does that it would It would probably trigger me as the as The former leader and would make me want To take a bit of a page of the book of The new king and uh on the internet Basically Yeah i mean Certainly If we just back up before we get to this Section though like in the intro the First paragraph uh they say that um you Know to this end we’re launching what We’re calling the helpful content update That’s part of a broader effort to Ensure people see more original Helpful content Written by people For people in search results So original helpful content to me that’s Like oh is this a dig it kind of Such Not just ai content Search intent yes yes um but also this Like um Big newspaper Like thin content that’s that’s Like you know targeting Really like Just non
Just not good not good stuff basically Like You know when you you look for how to Watch a certain tv show um you get uh All these big newspapers have like a Page about it and they start creating it Before the show’s out um you do that With all the sports games And the iphones you can probably google Iphone 15 and 16 and there’s already Pages on the big news sites you know Exactly exactly um but it could also be This we because we’ve had this like Dynamic recently where everybody is just Rewriting the the same because it’s In surfer and you know all the Correlation we’ll talk about I have this in the notes But yeah i think I see that taking a step back here Because like in the last few years Search intent has dominated Top result if you wanted to rank you had To follow the structure google was Giving you oh you were you you Did not rank unless you were like much Higher authority than everyone else like That’s the one case where you would Overtake people but if you were on the Same level of authority you would need To hit these specific points and you Would almost need to match the sentiment As well i always give this example of Like how a product that is very well
Reviewed by people because it pays lots Of money through the affiliate program We made like bad reviews and we ended up On like page five when honestly all the Matrix gave us um like you know we Should have been at least bottom of page One or something like maybe i’m not Saying number one but you know ranking Okay and and it’s like i’m it’s pretty Sure that’s because of that that’s Because it was like not matching exactly The search intent and what people were Saying basically and i think um i think They’re taking a step back here i think They’re realizing that too much search Intent Kills search results and people don’t Like seeing the same thing 10 times in a Row as well which which i think is a Good thing and i think if you put that Together with user metric and so on I think uh it could mean we see more Diversity back in the subs with which I’m a bit excited because i’ve been Writing about That’s definitely that’s not definitely But that that’s my Um initial opinion as to why they’re the The first thing they say is more Original That’s like the first first descriptive Word original helpful content Um and that that’s kind of what you get On tick tock and um all these like
Similar platforms to to an extent it’s Okay you can debate about how helpful You know some tick tock guru is but It’s certainly original right Yeah exactly and it’s like it’s Interesting and they don’t get the same Tick tock video ten times when you swipe Like ten times you know ten different People saying the same same the same Three points in ten slightly different Rewritten ways no Yeah exactly so i think i think it’s That way it’s gonna make a better google And most importantly Uh it might give a chance to people who Put the effort into their content a bit More Than than google has done in the past Few years with search intents which Honestly yeah i don’t i think it’s a Good thing searching them but i think Too far is not so good are you gonna go Through the questions Yeah so um You have the url Yeah i’m reading on the the restream Screen actually all right Um So focus on people first content update Aims to reward content where people feel They had satisfying experience we talked About user metrics there Um the next thing i saw was do yeah so The first question is do you have an
Existing or intended audience Uh for your business or site that would Find the content useful if they came Directly to you The first thing i think of when i read This is is this gonna target Uh all of these newspapers writing best Vpn review um Articles which has nothing to do with Um the news or Like the res what the rest of their site Is about they’re just no they’re talking About the whole business so i think like A newspaper they have an audience like Forbes has an audience they write Reviews but they have an audience people Buy still forbes and subscribe to them Etc so answering that question on the Business level yes they do actually i Think they’re more legitimate than many Smaller seo sites in that aspect And that’s not how i read it because it Says okay That they would find useful if they came Uh directly to you so like yeah Is the audience time like is the Audience of the rest of your business or The intended rest of your business if You’re a small site The same as what you’re writing about Here i see so if you go too far I guess it’s about going too far off Niche i guess it’s like everything Websites that’s what you mean yeah okay
I see you’re right actually i think you Read it better so you had an example in One of our recent podcasts by the way if You’re watching on youtube now subscribe And get our podcast for you an example Of i think it was forbes reviewing was It steak knives or something like that Uh yeah no best steak delivery service Stake delivery service yeah i mean Is it really them that should be should Be writing that stuff probably not no Yeah and so yeah i think maybe going too Far off niche might be an issue um which Which would be nice as well because we Would be back to rewarding content Specialists uh to some extent maybe not Not as much as we as google was before But it would allow niching down to be More rewarded which i think for small Publishers is a good thing actually uh It allows you to have a chance against Like you know yeah false writes about Everything and if they start writing About your niche they might overtake you And honestly they shouldn’t uh provided You put some effort in your niche Um let’s go for the next question does Your content clearly demonstrate First-hand expertise and a debt And a depth of knowledge for example Expertise that comes from having Actually used the product or service or Visiting a place i like that they They’re still focused on reviews right
It’s like the review update was like a Few weeks ago Like this is supposed to be general Content but like they’re still talking About reviews right Um So it’s like yeah they don’t they want You they don’t want like quickly written Roundups where you haven’t checked Anything and you just rewrote the bullet Points on amazon basically i guess Yeah guys we got a podcast we just Filmed it earlier today actually on um Writing high quality reviews and there’s A ton of examples in there of of sites Which are doing really amazing stuff Um subscribe if you want to get that uh It’ll be out in a couple weeks time um But this has been this is not a new Thing like they published for almost a Year now um very specific guidance on What they’re looking to see in in a Review so this is to me it’s just Regurgitating that or cementing that as Part of this new Algorithm penalty what like system that They call it not a penalty but this yeah That’s the thing where you can get Flagged as a And here’s the difference the difference Is that initially these things were in Quality raters guidelines they were not In argo rollout updates so i think this Is google’s first attempt
At truly putting E80 signals Into a real algorithm into a real Ranking factor Whereas before quality writers were Working on these standards you know Maybe for a few years so that they can Fit a database that then lets the Algorithm just establish the factors They want to use to Eventually rank the sites using this so It’s like personally i feel is the first Time google’s actually rolling out or Attempting to roll out some kind of eat As a ranking factor because now we’re Talking about something that’s Algorithmically decided versus quality Writer’s guidelines which is a very Different thing right Yeah i mean it it depends ultimately how They gather the this information like is It based on user metrics behavior search You know people rating it like what’s How are they going to determine that Uh yeah just by scanning the content Well they can’t do all that because they Talk about user engagement with that Um as well so i i don’t know Yeah it depends That’s it thank you guys for coming it Depends Uh no okay So let’s go for the next question The next the next part was um
Does your site have a primary purpose Or focus uh this is this is really Interesting um because how many like big Sites that do you remember was it About.com Um I mean now they’re like have specific Niche sites but yeah yeah and they’ve Been very successful at it but about.com It sucked the content was terrible and They just wrote about everything but They were so high authority for a time They they ranked quite well and then They realized that hey if we just like Split this off into Sub businesses give it a lot of focus And make great content about each of These niches they’ll do quite well and It did and they did yeah so i’m Wondering if it’s i’m wondering if this Again is not targeted at all these big Authorities newspapers i think he’s Targeting like everything review sites As well right for example like they Talked about review stuff in the Previous point et cetera i can see the Kind of sites like lots of people are Doing that right and and You know we’ll talk about that later but It’s probably targeting a lot of sites That automatically generate content as Well about everything and so on um i Think it’s gonna a lot of sites That sell links as well because a lot of
Sellings talk about everything Um and so that that might be a way to Also smash their Their Search traffic which makes people buy Less links etcetera Yeah so like the there’s like a a common Um Pattern among like link farms is you Know you buy a domain repurpose it get All the old content off of a wayback Machine And then you Like so maintain the dr hopefully Maintain summer most of the rankings for As long as possible but but if you’re if The site’s focused on I don’t know cars um then you would Maybe try and rebrand it to have a Category on cars category and technology Category on health and then you can just Sell links on on all those those pages And they’re terrible like those sites They suck Um and they they deserve to be punished Um so you know if this if this is going Some way to do that then Great You deserve to be punished but it gives Me a lot of it gives me a lot of hope Though because you know for the last Five years as Small businesses In the grand scheme of the internet at
Least You know Most people watching this i i presume Would will have felt that Google is rewarding Uh big publishers for you know just Being old big authority sites Not necessarily for producing the best Content when the The specialists the people who are Really trying to be excellent in their Their niche sometimes get rewarded but Also sometimes just get Um Punished for for not being a big news Site and that’s not something they can Change right it’s just frustrating when You’ve been in your niche for like five Six years and then some random news site Just comes in and just plays with your rankings and they’re They’re they write content which is far Worse than yours and yeah yeah Okay let’s go to the next question Because otherwise this is going to last Two hours um after reading your content With some will someone leave feeling They’ve learned enough about a topic to Help achieve their goal So basically like did you help a human i Think that’s kind of the short version Of this is like Are you satisfying search intent or will A human actually be able to use this in
Real life i think that’s that’s pretty Much Uh this next one What not i also i also think on that There’s there’s a dig here at not just Ai content but Rewritten Almost spot content uh that people are Are manually writing but let’s talk About this now you know what let’s just Talk about this now because it just Keeps coming i keep teasing is coming On page tools Let’s talk about that is this going to Target software optimized content is This going to target phrase optimus Content or pager optimizer pro or all That all these uh on-page Tools I mean it sounds like it Yeah Again i don’t want to say like oh you Use surfer on your site therefore you’re Going to get it that’s it’s not that’s Not how this this works Um it it’s more if like All of the content you’re creating Has no kind of Underlying value you’ve just taken what Else is out there and rewritten it Whether that’s with a human with ai with Whatever whatever else if the value Being communicated in there is is still Kind of then you know hopefully
This update is going to going to go After Those sites and that will And that will be a good thing i think But i think that just creating content With on-page tools is going to probably Not be enough Again we need to see it roll out like It’s We we should have prefaced this with That we don’t know exactly what this Update will be we’re just Lowering google’s documentation here um But like it does look what they’re Trying to say it’s like you won’t just Get away with it just stuffing your Keywords or related keywords into the Content it actually needs to have some Practical value to we are human for us To dm this as uh helpful content It’s pretty much what i’m taking away From this Yeah And that’s what the same the next point Is about as well with someone reading You’re contently feeling like they’ve Had a satisfying experience and are you Keeping in mind your for call dates and Product uh product review guidance Basically um one thing that you know When i saw this format of questions That reminded me of google panda Because Um
Do you want to just explain what panda Is because i realize Not everyone um here is going to be Doing seo for 14 years Nah probably most people don’t know what This is but google panda was probably Like It was at the time when Article directories would rank very high On google like ezinearticles and all These kind of websites that were pretty Very very like much more than what You see from the big publishers today Anybody could say anybody could sign up To ease on and probably share an account And post a post Basically use their authority to rank For like competitive terms So so it was pretty terrible google was In our place a little bit like they have Been recently a lot of people have been Complaining about google recently um and Google rolled out that panda update that Really changed the seo world a lot like Um what was demand media was the name of The company that and uh That How etc got completely smashed and their Share price like was cut divided by Three or something like it was it was a Big big smash to that company because They were you know publishing content Funds basically and they Yeah there was some big names that that
Died from that update including like Several sites we worked on at the time Et cetera like that was pretty painful And when google released that update That’s what they released they released Like a list of questions and actually Like this is so even to me i still Remember Their questions It’s like would you trust this website To put your credit card number in it Would you trust medical advice from this Website like things like that they would Like put these kind of questions And then the format here comes back and So when i saw this i was like Oh When i saw this format i was like are we Are we facing something as big as panda Was which was I don’t remember the percentage but i Think it was close to ten percent of all Search results changed like it’s a it’s A big number it’s just one of the Biggest uh updates they’ve ever done Yeah Yeah squidward used to rank a lot as Well someone’s saying on the chat Squidoo um and so like I went to what it was yeah people used To build links on this and like then Then like so second tier links etc That’s how you ranked on google back in The day um but like when i saw this
Format i can’t tell you this update is Gonna be big i don’t know it’s like i Haven’t seen it but I’m i’m i’m i’m having a feeling you Know i’m having a bit of a feeling this Could be like the dependent of 2020 or The 2020s you know uh maybe over and you Know one thing they say later is they Say i’ll put it at the end They say No it’s not here but like they basically Say they’re gonna refine it all the time Which tells you there’s gonna be Multiple refreshes like it’s going to Roll over time so let’s just say about That this is not going to be a thing Where they press a button and Everything’s going to change and then You need to wait for the next update to Uh essentially refresh it will keep Rolling But from what they say of people that Will be penalized at some point they say Um Sites that identify this update might Find a signal applied to them for over a Period of months with an s you know so While it’s going to be a continuous Updating it’s going to be slow like it’s Basically like crawling your link Profile right google just crawls slowly Your link profile over and over and over Again but it takes a long time for them To go through your entire link profile
And i think that’s uh that’s what’s Going to be there and i think that they Deliberately put a delay on getting you Out of this because they say it Determines that unhelpful content has Not returned in the long term so Basically they’re like okay they’re good Now but we’re going to wait a little bit More to see uh if these guys are Actually holding on to the new editorial Standards that they’ve set now that they Fixed their website Or if they You know essentially uh just did that For one point and then just go back to Their stuff they used to do before Right um so i think that’s gonna be a Little bit tricky and and you know when I saw that what it made me think about Is like people still have a few days to Remove a bunch of from their Websites before they actually before They roll it out the first time right Which means like you probably want to Avoid getting hit by this So if you have like shady stuff on your Site Um You might want to spend the next few Days looking at it and quickly and Publishing it before the first roll i’m Not sure it will like do it because they Might have been pre-crawling stuff and They’re just rolling out the results of
That crawling already in which case it’s Already in their database and there’s Nothing you can do but if that’s not the Case if they’re actually processing it In real time when they’re rolling it up Next week there’s a chance you could Avoid A period of months of trouble basically And that is an interesting one you know Um another thing that i want to say that They say is it’s a sight-wide signal and That’s what kind of like killed my hope When i saw that it’s a sideway signal Because you know like oh big publishers Yeah they probably content they’re Gonna be going away et cetera we’re Gonna be able to take the search results Back but my problem is like a site like Falls right the satellite forms there The percentage of Like reviews they have or whatever Is is very small right pubs has lots of Content and has some really good content As well right like these are 30s under 30 or whatever like the the ranking of The top uh Most wealthy people in the world etc That’s fobs right they do all this and That gets lots of legitimate links and That makes them good content et cetera So that’s that’s considered good content By google and so if like it’s only a Small percentage of their content that’s Annoying us but really uh it’s not
Most of the site i don’t think that Signal is going to be applied to a site Like false i mean you know i don’t agree With that because You that that’s akin to saying you know Okay because they have so many good Pages they can publish you know 10 000 pages and still be okay But Compared to a smaller site which you Know has 500 pages in total and 400 ship Pages forbes having ten thousand ship Pages versus four that 400 ship pages Yeah i don’t know how that works bad bad Stuff so i don’t think it would be quite So simplistic that just you know if it’s If they make like a an if statement in The algorithm like if it’s above 10 then Penalize them Do you think they’ll have like Thousands of phds and then just make Like a single if statement for the Algorithm exactly exactly It’s like they’re all like working on That single excel spreadsheet that rolls Out the algorithm right that’s how it Works yeah And they don’t even use google doc they Use excel um anyway yeah it’s uh it’s It’s going to be a site writing which i Mean yeah It’s interesting but another thing that They say is that Yeah any content not just on helpful
Content on size determine have Relatively high amount of unhelpful Content overall is less likely to Perform well in search which means even Your great content is going to be dunked On if you have lots of bad content on Your site pretty much um but another Thing that they do they do clarify and They say that’s just one signal of many This isn’t like yeah but that’s what That’s the good reason yeah everything’s Like it’s it’s more like well We’ll We’ll still take other things into Consideration so if you’re already dr 92 Or whatever then i would say the impact Perhaps could be lessened by that yeah It’s hard to tell still like no you’ve Got those though the flip side of that Is you’ve got more to lose if you’ve got If you’ve already got a lot of traffic Yeah Um There’s a really interesting comment roy Just um posted um in the chat at the Moment said what if they already rolled This out sounds like what happened to my Site and many others just basically like A flag on your site Um at least at least it sounds like There’s some hope to um remove it and as You were kind of describing this that That did get me thinking you know for The past
Year or so we’ve seen sites have get hit By these kinds of updates and just get Not totally or in some cases wiped out But but hit pretty hard yeah huge and Then there’s there’s this there’s this Thing like no matter what they do to fix It it’s not until the next like update Or Period of time happens and then like Everything changes and and then Then they’re considered for Reconsideration or whatever Yeah i don’t think the world is up yet Though no i’m not saying this Specifically but The way that algorithmic function works You know where you’re you’re in the Doghouse until the next Period of time yeah yeah it’s nice that You can recover at your own pace and Like if there’s no update for six months Then you can still recover like it’s Nice because for some all the argos That’s not how it works you need to wait Till they refresh before it actually Works uh but yeah but that’s no that’s That’s what they’re saying here as well Isn’t it What do you mean yeah no for this one They say you can’t get out uh like it’s Going to be rolled out continuously so There will not be a button they press That will refresh everything it will Okay but what they say it’s like they
Will roll it as consciously but you’ll Be Basically you’ll be dunked on for Several months when it happens like they Put the flag on you for a while and they Make sure that quality content does not Come back Um right okay and so you have to kind of Prove yourself for a period of time Exactly so you’re in purgatory basically Like that’s the definition of purgatory Uh by google and that is getting flagged By this algorithm but Um One thing that i liked in this i mean That i like that i noticed i don’t think I liked any of that Um is that sites with lots of unhelpful Content may notice a stronger effect and There was an interview uh that was done By uh glenn gabe with danny sullivan who Created search engines but now works for Google And and he confirmed that it’s basically A gradual effect so it’s not like a one Or two some argos are one or zero right It’s like yes no and then you flip a Switch and you’re triggering you you’re Targeted by it or you don’t flip the Switch and you get nothing this is a Gradual thing so Think about it like there’s going to be Tiers of websites like there’s going to Be you know st atlb
Tlct you know and then you’ll be like You know how people like do the rankings On youtube of like stuff etc that’s Going to be google with websites and They just like Place you in different tiers and so i Think that it’s going to be that is an Interesting take Because You might even though you’re like doing Okay maybe you’re in like bt just Fighting to go into eight here might Actually be a be be something that’s Very beneficial for you and that’s going To change the way you approach Publishing content because you know Every kind of like half-ass page you put On your website Kind of like puts you further away from That goal uh like an stl site would have Only great pages and atsi will have like 90 grade pages etc etc and so like you You need to be thinking uh About that because it’s a gradual effect And you know if you’re just like the The lowest level of being affected by Sago you might not notice that much Actually and i it’s hard to tell but it Might it might just be google’s new way Of classifying websites in general and Maybe they were they could reward like Really great sites with like fewer pages But really well built uh not publishing As often things like that like it’s
Going to be a different way of dealing With it i hope they reward it enough That it kind of like outweighs the Strategy that consists in publishing so Much content that’s kind of because It drives much more traffic um that Would be nice if they did that Let’s see i can’t tell exactly but it’s You you see the hinting at this you know This this they’ve always had kind of Good objectives or goals i mean they’ve Been trying to do this for Like since i got into to seo really um But it’s it’s maybe only now that they They can but again as always let’s yes Let’s wait and see what it actually Looks like and if they’re if they’re Able to pull it off My opinion is that social platforms and Their experience with youtube has taught Them a lot about good content In general um but it’s like and also Like the fact that google gives us this Big writer for google on this other Tells me It’s important to them you know yeah It’s not um it’s not like a random oh Here’s a card i guess you later like It’s just like they care about this you Know No not not not not quite enough to spell Check their articles though Oh yeah there’s there’s spelling Mistakes
Um towards the in the third paragraph it Said um While also utilizing seo best practices To bring searchers addition value i Think that’s meant to be additional here We go Would you qualify clarify this as a Helpful content do you think that would Pass the algorithm i don’t think that Would make any difference people still Understand it same as like the page Speed insight tool doesn’t pass page Speed insights by google so yeah It’s uh inception um anything else you Wanted to highlight on this document Um did we talk much about the creating Content for search engines first stuff Uh no we haven’t talked about that Section but do you want to talk about it Yeah we can do Okay Uh Yeah i mean they did the same format of Questions right answering yes to some of All the questions is a warning sign Content creating primary for search Engines traffic is strongly correlated With content that searches find Unsatisfying to me that that is talking About uh on-page uh tools content right Now like I believe because it’s like Yeah i mean it’s not it’s not just On-page tools right it’s like searching
It’s the whole process of Copying what’s ranking number one and Just trying to rewrite that and not Really adding any unique or original Value in what you’re you’re doing you Know Yeah Uh oops uh let’s go through the question Is the common primary uh to attract People from search engines rather than Made for humans so are you doing seo Basically Exactly well they also say elsewhere That you know You should you should write for humans But also you know yeah Yeah apply the principles seo that’s how They phrase it yeah Are you producing lots of content on Different topics in hopes that some Might perform well in search results um So that is also like a Basically a target on everything sites And people who like kind of like shoot In the dark And don’t stay in a niche Yeah and also you know If you consider like what is your hit Rate with content are you writing 10 Articles to get one that ranks if so Then That may be in scope for you know some Yeah that’s a good point actually like The heat rate with your content is good
Actually Because i think that’s going to give you An idea of like I mean it depends it depends how much They change search intent without update I guess Um because you could get well it’s like Right now google massively rewards Matching such intent so it’s like you Don’t really need to be original you Just need to put a good page together That Summarizes all the information you can Find on the best pages on on the top of Google and and you tend to rank provided You have the link matrix that’s kind of Like how it works right now But like this the whole first part of This is about original uh insights right So like how much how much is that Rewarded in in that new version in that New argos thing uh and then That’s going to change the heat rate Because you could have a high heat rate And still they might not like your Content when you roll this out Yeah Although i don’t know It’s so it’s so hard to say with that One i i i yeah we don’t need to wait and See i i i feel like it’s it’s just Blind speculation here rather than Offering any insights then let’s go to The next one are you using extensive
Automation for this content on many Topics so that is ai tools as well like Uh like that is targeting the jasper That’s about as straight up direct like Ai as uh Are you subscribed to jesta So does this mean then that Any That first of all does this mean that They’ve figured out how to detect ai Content I don’t think they necessarily have any Same like then you still even was asked In the other article like is this same That ai content let me actually check The code i don’t i won’t say it on the Screen but I have it somewhere Where is it Hey We are looking to first content that Will be viewed as helping and adding Value on the topic search creators who Are specifically creating content Perception which include ai based Content may be impactive So that’s that’s the official google Uh answer to this which I’ve always wondered if it’s like is it Actually possible to Tell what’s ai content and what’s not Like is is it is there some pattern in It or is it more the fact that The way because the way it lands is like
Rewrites rewrites what else you can find It’s like That they focused on that area of things I think i think you can technically Probably figure it out but i don’t think It’s economically viable for google to Process to that content to that level to Like try to find all the permutations That could have led to that piece of Content to make sure it’s not ai i don’t Think that’s how it’s gonna work like um They might have like a Found some some like patterns like easy Patterns or something like this but i Just don’t think especially given the Current cost of energy right because Like processing this stuff costs Electricity electricity is expensive These days uh and it’s like yeah i don’t See google just putting that level of Processing on each page on the internet You know even though it’s technically Possible probably There’s a really interesting comment Nina 2813 says i always find it ironic Because they use am ai themselves to Make these judgments and i’ve reported That in this report as well Yeah it’s true that’s i said that to a Friend as well it’s like it’s the Biggest ai company that’s just basically Always ai you know oops Uh so yeah i mean that that is yeah Pretty much pretty much
Yeah so so it’s not it’s not the fact That It’s ai it’s like oh anything written Anywhere by ai d index it that’s that’s Not what i think is is happening here It’s the process whereby A lot of most ai content is rewriting Other stuff it finds and it ends up Being kind of non-interesting rewrites Rather than Um something unique in an original but There are cases many cases where people Are using ai to You know you write an article but it’s What you don’t like the way paragraphs Phrase to use ai to rephrase your own Words The rest of the article is great you Know as a writing assistant i think There is value there and i think we’re Just scratching the surface that’s how You use it yeah what you can do with it Uh the next one is is a bit worrying for On-page tools are you mainly summarizing What others have to say without adding Too much value that’s basically search Intent to me Like basically uh i mean that’s how Certain has worked for a long time and That’s that’s one debate i wanted to Open as well is like uh it feels like Google has been basically rewarding that Yeah for like a few years like I used to hate that but i’ve been forced
To do some of that or more of that than I would like in a lot of my content Because Honestly i wouldn’t get traffic Otherwise And i keep if i get punished for that Now i’m gonna be a bit angry you know Because it’s like i prefer doing Original stuff But i’m not it’s like it’s not exactly Like i would like have paid the bills With the original content In the past few years you know um so we Had to like do a lot of like mimicking a Lot of what the page is ranking etc and It worked out better let’s be honest So i really hope they don’t even think Does this feel they’re like well we’ve We’ve kind of like Shaped the serps so that you do it in This way and now we’re just gonna rug Pull you and uh yeah that’s what i’m Gonna do Yeah i mean it’s possibility It’s like I mean i prefer working that way but i Would be a bit annoyed to lose traffic And have done all this stuff that i Didn’t want to do in the first place Just because i adapted to the way google Works you know and i really hope it Doesn’t Does that rock pool on small side owners Because that’s kind of like my fear here
Is that scion was kind of adapted to What works and agu was just like Basically you over overnight and That’s a little bit Thank you very much Um are you writing about things simply Because they seem trending not because You write about them otherwise For your existing audience You know this made me question whether We should like whether this is going to Be rewarded to start writing for Keywords that have no search volume just So that you look more like you’re just Covering your topic and not really Caring as much about seo like how much Are they going to look at like your Topic distribution on your site Um As like you know i i mean i guess i Don’t think that much because Even if you do keyword research where You produce excellent content i don’t Think they should punish you i think That’s not really the end goal here um So no probably probably not relevant i Would say Um Does your content leaves readers feeling Like they need to search again to get Better information from other sources Um That is an interesting one because Uh
Ahrefs Gives you the stats of like how many Clicks so search get right that tells You like oh on average research and what It’s telling me is basically Provided this algorithm works as as this Document says These keywords that have a higher a Higher number here might be the ones That might be up for grabs because People are not finding the content that They like on top that’s why they’re Clicking more basically um so these Might be the more shaky Keywords and uh and moving ones i would Say Um Provided it works like they say Uh Are you writing a particular word count Because you’ve heard that google has a Preferred word count no we don’t oh that Is going to be quoted a lot actually Like um like that is going to be like in Every seo thing or something they’ll be Like oh look google said no what kind Etc um what’s your take on that Um I mean surely the your word count has to If not directly indirectly come into the The ranking Algorithm in in some way already and Surely they can’t Um
Can’t say oh you know like Write as long or as short as you want Because You’re not going to be matching the Needs of the searcher if you in all Cases if you if you do that so It feels maybe a little bit disingenuous To to do it this way i think maybe There’s It’s more to address the fact that Um some people were sort of saying oh You have to write at least a 800 word or A thousand article a thousand word Article um in order to rank or in order To to do well or like you know these These stupid like You know blanket rules like that which Which Don’t Really don’t make a difference but People seem to perpetuate them for some Reason Yeah i don’t think like what counts as Per se is like super important but if You want to cover the topic properly you Need a minimum word count it’s also it’s Also like a maximum word count though as Well like yeah i should go too far People people reading stuff on their Phones these days you know there’s less Real estate there you’re writing ten Thousand word articles and some things That’s just like people scrolling Forever you never like
You’re not giving people the information In a nice sort of uh Succinct way Yeah actually nina says i wonder if this Is going to penalize sites with high Bounce rate I don’t think it’s going to use bounce Rate necessarily as a factor but it Might be an indication that this is not The content google will want to reward Through that like a proxy metric Basically um I would also i would also just caution People around um bounce rate in general Because it means yeah it’s bad yeah um One of the big problems um i remember Back in our agency days is that in Google analytics Um bounce rate i believe is when Um What is it when people come to your site And then and don’t visit the second page Don’t yeah don’t visit second page on Your website Yeah which is terrible Some types of sites if they come to your Your page And then they click on an affiliate link And go and buy it Because you had a great review like You’ve served the purpose you you’ve Served a valuable point in that chain But it counts as a bounce from google Analytics but it’s not really a bounce
It’s like a success about i think it Bounces people landing your page like oh This is back and then like go and Click one of the other results and get Served there Yeah what they don’t want is like yeah You you go back to google you go to Another site that’s what uh simplify Gardening is saying I think that’s that’s that’s probably What and probably what the monitoring is Like the traffic that left and came back On the same search result uh that’s like They don’t monitor on your side the Monitor on their site it’s a little bit Different yeah um and they monitor the Time that elapsed between the time that You left and the time you came back Uh which is not going to be exactly like Exactly your bounce rate basically Um Does your content be reader feeling um Now we did this one Uh Did you decide Your some niche topic area without any Real expertise but instead mainly Because you thought you’d get search Traffic Ooh so do we all need to to be experts Now to to start sites Well certainly google seems to seem to Imply that that you do but I guess it’s like what do you mean by an

Where uh frank abignale the main guy Taught a sociology class to his Like to the other kids pretending to be The replacement teacher basically and Then when he got arrested They they were like oh how did you do This and he was like i don’t know i just Read the chapter the night before that i Was gonna teach and then i knew Everything that they needed to do for That day you know and uh and i think That is a like you know if you go by That definition like lots of people can Be exposed but i think It’s related to the topic of the page or Something like basically if you have Research thoroughly if you understand The topic and you can expose it clearly Uh then then i think that you’re Legitimate it’s really As much about Knowing the topic as it is about being Able to organize the information in a Clear way for people to grasp it as well This this is getting quite philosophical Are you uh An expert then If you spend the time here and now To Get educated and learn a lot about this Topic or are you an expert because You’ve been doing that um in the past For a period of time and you have a Demonstrable track record

Article which is less than a week old Um which which targets this keyword Primarily right and some of them do give Give fair value right okay there’s no Release date but they say that at the Top Um and they’re like this this is all we Know so far so they promised to release Uh an announcement at e3 next year and They’ve scheduled end of 2023 anymore Whatever you know um I’m not sure but that that is Better information Than Um you know iphone 20 when it’s a Release date oh maybe in 2027 Like it’s There are people writing about that It works for iphones as well right go Google iphone 15 iphone like iphone 14 Is coming out in a month right so it’s Like you can already find iphone 15 Pages iphone 16 pages probably iphone 17 Pages etc like people are just going Crazy for this stuff and yeah it’s a Little annoying um but It’s not as bad as it used to be like Before for medical terms it used to be Extremely bad as well it’s a bit better Now i just checked actually so i Remember when we were in the health Niche i was doing cured research And i found the keyword how to regrow Your teeth
And i was like Raising an eyebrow seeing this And i was like really I googled it And google was filled with articles on How to regrow your teeth even though you Probably can’t do that that’s why people Use implants you know um One of the best-selling clickbank Products of all time Um was called vision without glasses I remember this one and it was an ebook That told you how to improve your Eyesight By using exercises right Yeah Yeah so this stuff is already pretty Short The medic update kind of cleared a lot Of that let’s be honest but um but like They’re basically Going after like more subtle versions of That Which is quite interesting um Okay anything else you want to talk About i wanted to talk about how this Might affect different business models Quickly okay So i wanna like let’s start with like Big publishers do you think they’re Gonna be Uh Slightly affected moderately affected Heavily affected heavily affected
Do you think they’re behaving Effectively heavily affected yeah i Disagree actually I think they would be lightly affected So i think there’s uh there’s a Certainly some big publishers out there That um Utilize their vast resources and Authority and whatever to produce The best content in the in the industry But the majority of them are not the Majority of them have written Most of the stuff they’re like core Business Covers Uh and so they’re kind of like Stretching more and more and more into Um adjacent fields or areas where There’s their seo team have told them All there’s keyword volume on this we Should write about this and then they Start start doing it but it’s in a very You know if you had a a medium dr site Writing the same stuff you would never Rank um but they don’t know Their authority and so they’re all of These Um Factors which we’re talking about um They’re not meeting them Okay well let’s let’s see let’s see how It’s like kind of the prediction tell us In the chat how you think uh big Publishers are gonna be affected i’m
Curious actually uh let’s talk about Parasite seo do you think like part of This you is kind of interesting because I guess it’s also big publishers is it The same like is it still going to work The same because i highlighted that on Twitter people talked a bit a lot about It I think the The parasite seo pages are so off topic From what the rest of the audience is About that’s kind of a bit of a slam Dunk in that if they execute the Algorithm Correctly They should be one of the first to go Right yeah but you couldn’t let us know That you could have said that I think so here’s the thing if this is The new panda Panda first rolled out sitewide And A couple years later google moved it to Page level i think that’s where it moves To page level that big publishers get Affected that’s when like and then Parasite tests you etc i think in the First way which is site-wide only the Authority is just going to save them Like always you know um because like the Rest of like a lot of their site is is Not matching Like it’s not so bad and they have lots Of history et cetera it would just be a
Loss to google to lose that website to To penalize forbes it’s like a huge loss To google you know um i’m not i’m not This is this isn’t like a uh forbes Everything you write is minus 100 Rankings like that’s exactly what They’re saying it’s a sight white thing Yeah but it’s not a sight white oh Everything is going to yes that’s This is nothing It’s not the page says the page says Even your great content might be Affected if you have content on earth i I i understand it but the way this is Constructed is like you’re gonna have Um [Music] Vast over some location let’s say There’s there’s a hundred ranking Factors yeah and there are i know There’s way more but let’s say there’s a There’s a hundred right The top one accounts for Single digit percentage right yeah the Second one it accounts for more and then It goes down into like ones and two and Zero point whatever percent This this new thing this everything We’re talking about today Is like one new ranking factor in in This thing probably a pretty significant One but one new factor um so At most we’re talking about what Factoring 10
Like forbes or whatever gets flagged in In this thing like okay yes it’s not Meeting these standards it’s in the Doghouse for this All of its other factors are still great There’s next to them so it’s just this One thing um so it’s not like they’re Going to completely tank but Relative to the competition is they’re More Competitive keywords that they’re Ranking for This is probably going to significantly Push them down a bit if if the number Two is you know right on on their ass Um so so that’s what i mean here but Like it’s gonna hurt them but it’s not Gonna wipe them out Yeah they’re still to be so it’s not That heavy three or four so it’s not Heavily affected it’s like moderate to Light you know well No it i think it is because These these big sites these big news Sites they have so much traffic already Uh they have hundreds of millions of Visitors a month in many cases so They have the most to lose Uh so that’s why i think it would be Very very simple i think they have the Most tools in the sense that they could Lose lots of number one rankings they Could go from like number one to number Two it doesn’t seem like a big deal but
In terms of traffic it’s like yeah You’re taking a big hit actually So like maybe it won’t be as big in the Graphs but it could be big in the Traffic numbers and they might still be In the top five but then number four Instead of being number two this is a Really interesting point so um sorry i Don’t have a potential name is it Rovier haravier yeah uh milokovich um so He said no chance they will destroy Literally every big site because they All do it right and this is this is Exactly what we saw in um panda when it First came out like there there were so Many sites like doing the same thing That they all kind of tumbled a bit um And then it ended up not being that bad On any single one of them because Everyone else kind of got at the Same time as well Yeah i agree i mean it might affect them A little bit it might make some room Without completely getting rid of them That’s what i would say Like Maybe you know like you know we talk About this steel system they might go From eight here to a bt you know Something like this Uh something like that but that’s not Heavily affected heavily effective is Like minus seventy percent traffic you Know um like lightly affected is

Yeah i don’t think they’re losing 50 Traffic no way i think i think You’re talking 10 or something but it Still makes some room uh let’s talk About content sites that build their Content exclusively with on-page tools Do we think they’re going to be affected Um I think that’s a bad question um okay So the next that implies that That implies that it’s the on-page tool That’s causing this problem and it’s not It’s guiding people That’s uh okay yeah that’s that’s fair It’s guiding people in in that way but You can still create epic content that’s never going To be touched by this and you know You’re using surfer or whoever else Um To to kind of optimize it right Because that’s that’s the thing to do i Don’t think those people are going to be Punished and Not in a million years no because They’re doing all the other stuff right Um if you’re doing all the other stuff Wrong and then you’re doing surfer very Well but that’s the only thing you’re
Doing very well and then you’re kind of Getting up there because of it Then yes i think you have something to Worry worry about but that’s not because You’re using surf or any on-page tool If you if you’re like using software Without applying critical sense i would Say you might be i have to be worried Um ai content writers jasper uh all These guys same same thing as well Yeah I i think that There’s a big correlation between people Who are you know using spun ai content Running it through surfer publishing it And thinking that will rank and the type Of people that are going to get get hit But hit by this just because they have Poor quality standards in in their Content creation in general Yeah Okay do we need to start buying products For product reviews Um We actually talked about this in the Podcast uh we recorded a few hours ago And um yeah i mean i think there’s There’s more and more importance of of Doing that Um I i’ve always said that It depends what everyone else is doing Right if nobody else has done that Someone has to rank right um and and so
